Common ManyChat Setup Mistakes & How to Fix Them

The 5 most common ManyChat setup mistakes that prevent DM Tracker from working, and how to fix each one.

Most ManyChat connection issues come down to a handful of common mistakes. If your DM Tracker onboarding isn't completing or your stats aren't showing up, start here.

Mistake #1: Auth Token and Organization ID Are Swapped

This is the single most common issue we see. In ManyChat, there are two bot fields you need to fill in:

  • Authentication Token → Your auth token from DM Tracker Settings

  • Organization ID → Your org ID from DM Tracker Settings

If these are in the wrong fields (org ID where auth token should be, or vice versa), nothing will work. Double-check both values are in the correct fields.

Where to find your values: Go to DM Tracker → Settings → Connections. Your Auth Token and Organization ID are listed there.

Mistake #2: Bot Fields Are Empty or Duplicated

If you imported the DM Tracker ManyChat template more than once, you may have duplicate bot field variables with a date and timestamp appended at the end - something like auth_token_2024_10_13_143052 instead of auth_token.

How to fix:

  1. Go to ManyChat → Settings → Custom Fields → Bot Fields

  2. Look for any duplicated variables (especially ones with a date/timestamp at the end)

  3. Delete the broken duplicates

  4. Re-import the DM Tracker template one more time cleanly

Mistake #3: Default Reply Not Set to "Every Time"

The DM Tracker automation flow needs to be your Default Reply in ManyChat, and it needs to trigger every time - not just once per 24 hours.

How to fix:

  1. Go to ManyChat → Settings → Instagram → Default Reply

  2. Select the DM Tracker flow

  3. Set the frequency to "Every Time"

  4. Save

Mistake #4: Flow Not Published

After making any changes to your ManyChat flow, you need to publish it for the changes to take effect.

How to fix: Open the DM Tracker flow in ManyChat and click Publish in the top right corner.

Mistake #5: Using ManyChat's Free Trial

ManyChat's free trial plan does not support external requests (API calls). DM Tracker needs this to sync data. You need to be on a paid ManyChat Pro plan for the integration to work.

Still Not Working?
